Molded circuit breakers differ from their traditional counterparts in that their current carrying parts, mechanisms and trip devices are completely contained within a molded case of insulating material. These differences help them to function without a risk of damage. There are two main components to an MCCB: the trip unit, which monitors current flow to determine when the device should be broken; and the operating apparatus, which physically opens the circuit after receiving a signal from the trip unit.

The rated interrupting current of a circuit breaker refers to the amount of current it can break for a limited period of time. It is important to understand this limit when selecting a breaker for a particular application. A breaker’s interrupt rating decreases as the voltage increases.

Another important aspect of MCCBs is their rated short-circuit breaking capacity. This refers to the ability of a breaker to withstand a three-phase short-circuit current. There are two kinds of ratings: rated operating short-circuit breaking capacity Ics and rated ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity Icu. The former refers to how long the breaker can run after it has broken a short-circuit current; the latter is determined through specific experimental procedures.

Vacuum Circuit Breakers

Vacuum Circuit Breakers are fast-acting switches that are used to interrupt currents and protect equipment from damage. They have a wide range of applications and are ideal for power distribution systems. They are also commonly used as control switches in high-voltage networks. Air Circuit Breakers

Air circuit breakers (ACB) are electrical devices that can close, carry and break current under normal circuit conditions, using the air as an arc extinguishing medium. They also help protect electrical equipment from overcurrent and under voltage. ACBs operate at low voltage and have a steel frame with parts installed inside.

There are several types of air circuit breakers, including plain and magnetic blowout types. Plain ACBs have two points of contact in the shape of horns. These are designed for low voltage applications, up to 11KV. Magnetic blowout ACBs have the main contacts in the shape of 2 horns and have the capability to extend the arc by using blowout coils. This allows for more performance in less space.

Both types of Air circuit breakers ACBs can protect against short circuits, overloads and undervoltage. They are widely used in power systems, like power transformers and distribution stations. When Air circuit breakers trips, it disconnects the current from the load, cutting off power to the equipment and protecting the wiring.
